Botox, short for botulinum toxin, is a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is derived from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. When injected in small amounts into specific facial muscles, Botox temporarily blocks nerve signals, preventing the muscles from contracting. As a result, the overlying skin becomes smoother, and the appearance of wrinkles is diminished.
